I have other skills, gained through years of experience and employment in the creative industries. I will expand on this at some stage and add some example, but if any of this sparks interest then please get in touch and let's talk!
Sound and Music
My creative journey began with sound, experimenting with tape and synthesisers in high school. After school I worked as a live sound engineer for many bands around Adelaide as well as the occasional interstate tour. I have also played in a few bands over the years from Art music to pub covers. I have written more music than I can remember, using a variety of modern and antique synthesisers and drum machines. I started editing tape and now am just at home in nodal DSP patching environments like Max/MSP.
Video/Photography
My late father was a keen weekend photographer and I was lucky to grow up around a home darkroom, jiggling trays of developer and shaking Patterson tanks full of film. Moving on from there, I took up with video cameras and have worked professionally as a camera operator, editor and live vision switcher. For fun, I have built a modular analog video synthesiser which allows me to experiment with integrating vision in with the audio synths. I have had pieces of video art exhibited in this and other states and even internationally.
Computing
I love computers. The freedom they offer a creative mind. My first computer was an Atari STe with a whopping 4 Meg of RAM. On this computer I learnt to sequence midi, edit samples and even run synthesis programs as well as various graphics packages including 3D. From there I moved into the Apple Mac environment which I still use to this day. However, professionally I have worked with Wintel for office admin and camera robotics as well as a Linux based media ingest and database system. I was employed by Adelaide University as a technical office where I built and maintained both recording and midi studios for the Electronic Music Department and video editing suites for the Discipline of Media. While I personally prefer to work on a Mac, I am happy with any system as long as it works.
Audio Visual
Like many tech people, I have worked as an AV technician, specialising in audio and video systems, though I can point and focus a light and push the buttons that make them flash, if needed. The job is not all technical and I have a deal of experience in speaker prep, ensuring that presentations are working and that the clients are comfortable with the systems they will encounter. I also have some experience supervising other technicians over the course of multi day conferences.
