AADC, Mental Health Coalition, Don Dunstan Foundation
Target Market
People who work in the advertising and media industries along with people engaged with promotion of mental health with a sprinkle of people generally interested in advertising and media production.
The Brief
Create a design for the AdMental initiative event An A3 poster and social tile informing people about the event that will go up in cafes/shops.
The main point is not to show negative aspects of mental health. This is an event poster to bring people to the event. No specific look and feel is expected. While the event does have its own branding, the finished work does not have to align with that. From the brief itself- “The ultimate goal is to create a design that will encourage people to engage with the topic of mental health in a meaningful way and attend the AdMental event.”
Rationale
The brain is a mass of connections. This is what make us who we are, as do our connections to one another. The metaphoric patch cable featured in this design stands for all these connections – the mind, our professional networks, friend networks and the advertising and media industry too. There is another metaphor of the journey within this patch cord as there is a start and an end. We end at AdMental.
The eyes are a fun device. Did someone just stick them there as sometimes happens? So the viewers eyes are drawn to the googly eyes and once again allowing the gaze to settle on the brand. The eyes are also directly connected to the brain and so we have yet another connection in this network of metaphors.
Process
I started with a mood board to investigate what I would use as a central hero image that would answer to the brief. Images of cameras, test patterns, old TV's and drive in speakers featured along with some ideas around colour. and type.
